Take Stock in Children aims to passionately promote personal growth, self-responsibility, and academic success for deserving, low-income children by providing a unique set of resources including mentors, scholarships, long-term support, student advocacy, and a guaranteed educational opportunity.
Description:
Take Stock in Children is a school-based mentoring program, providing a 2+2 college scholarship upon successful completion of high schools. Local programs select students in grades 6-9, matching each with a caring adult who agrees to meet with the student weekly during the school year, on school property, during school hours. Volunteer mentors commit to one school year at a time, but hopefully will remain with a student until they graduate. 2+2 scholarships provide full 2 years tuition at a community college, followed by full 2 years tuition at a state university. This unique mentoring/scholarship program is offered in every county in the State of Florida; the website provides local contact information.
