A Gift For Teaching
A Gift for Teaching's mission is to improve public education by transferring our community's surplus materials and resources free to teachers for their students in need.
Description:
Almost half the students in Central Florida can't afford lunch let alone school supplies. In many cases, devoted teachers spend between $500-$1,000 of their own money to buy supplies for students and classrooms. Our solution helps bridge the gap.
A Gift For Teaching's Free Store for teachers helps meet this need with support from local businesses and the community by transferring, at no cost, surplus supplies and merchandise into the hands of full-time public school teachers and their students in high-need schools in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties.
Schools with the highest level of need, having 60 percent or more of the students on free or reduced lunch programs, can send all teachers to shop once a month. Other schools can send one representative each week, and teachers can also volunteer to earn a shopping visit.
For every $1 received at A Gift For Teaching, $10 worth of supplies goes back to the classroom. Free Store product donations include basic supplies such as pencils, crayons, glue, backpacks and books. In addition, items such as new toys, videos, stuffed animals and art supplies are incentives for students. Out-dated letterhead, file folders, maps and other office supplies are also great classroom tools.
