New Hope For Kids
New Hope for Kids provides specialized support to children and families grieving the loss of a loved one and grants wishes to children with life-challenging illnesses in Central Florida.
Description:
New Hope for Kids specializes in blending grief facilitation and intervention for children and families and granting wishes to children with life challenging illnesses in Central Florida. New Hope achieves its mission through two programs - The Center for Grieving Children and Children's Wish - and through support services such as nine family events annually, resource information, and referral to other agencies for assistance. The Center for Grieving Children is a support program for grieving children and for those who are part of their lives.
The Center for Grieving Children, an affiliate program of New Hope for Grieving Children & Families, provides a safe and supportive environment where children grieving the death of a loved one can share their experience. Offering a unique opportunity for children to begin and continue their grief journey, which continues as they move through the healing process. Center for Grieving Children encourages the expression of the grief experience verbally, and through creative, positive play within a peer group setting. The groups are open to grieving children ages 3 to 18. New Hope also extends support for family members, caregivers, schools and the Central Florida community. In 1985 the Wish Program was founded as a not-for-profit charity to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses who have not yet reached their 18th birthday nor had a wish granted previously. A life-threatening illness is defined by New Hope for Kids as any illness which will in all likelihood shorten the child's full life expectancy. Since its beginning, more than 1200 wishes have been granted.
