CHILDREN NEED YOUR HELP
The Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc. Guardian ad Litem Program focuses on the needs of abused and neglected children in the Juvenile Court and Foster Care System in Orange County. We are recruiting Volunteer Advocates for Children (VACs) to work with Court appointed attorneys (GALs). VACs will assist our GALs by maintaining contact with the child, obtaining records and conducting home visits. VACs assist the GALs in managing the case and providing a stable, kindhearted adult to help mentor the foster child. We will provide the needed training; will you be the committed, caring adult? We also need volunteers who speak Spanish or Creole, as well as individuals willing to commute to neighboring counties to meet the needs of our children. If you are willing to serve as a VAC and make a difference in a child’s life or need additional information about this opportunity, contact Tiffany Smith at tsmith@legaladidocba.org or (407) 841-8310 ext. 3149.
To qualify for our VAC program, you must be at least 19 years of age, be in good health and of moral character and be willing to commit to one year of service upon accepting a case. The time commitment that is required during that year is based on the amount of time you have available in conjunction with the GAL and/or child’s needs. An 8 hour training is required before any volunteer can begin assisting with cases. This opportunity is sponsored by: Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc.
