The Apopka Family Learning Center (AFLC) has offered free educational and supportive social services to Central Florida’s poor since 1977. We are looking for community leaders to join our board and further our mission by:

  1. Helping to engage the community in the work of the AFLC
  2. Leading and governing the AFLC,thus, creating a strategic plan for the future
  3. Raising funds to ensure stability

Our mission is the creation of a unique, educational environment of hope and encouragement for lifetime learning. AFLC helps families address vital issues of education literacy, parenting skills, health care, and money management. AFLC builds strong families one day at a time.

We are looking for business and community volunteers who are passionate about children, education and families. A board member is responsible for:
•Attend and participate in meetings on a regular basis, and special events as able.
•Participate on a standing committee of the board, and serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary.
•Be alert to community concerns that can be addressed by the Apopka Family Learning Center's mission, objectives, and programs.
•Help communicate and promote the Apopka Family Learning Center's mission and programs to the community.
•Become familiar withthe Apopka Family Learning Center's finances, budget, and financial/resource needs.
•Understand the policies and procedures of AFLC
•Financially support AFLC in a manner commensurate with one’s ability.

Directions:
 From Altamonte Springs: 1. Keep straight on 436 W/ E. Altamonte Drive until it turns into S. Orange Blossom Trail/US- 441 N /Main St. (You will pass over S.R. 434, Lake Howell, Wekiva Springs Rd., Thompson Rd. and Sheeler Rd.) 2. At the intersection of US 441N/Main Street and Park Avenue (You will see Walgreens on your right.), turn LEFT onto C.R. 435/Park Avenue. Cross over the railroad tracks. 3. Keep straight on C.R. 435/Park Avenue. 4. Turn RIGHT on 8th Street. (You will see a Kangaroo gas station at the corner.) 5. Follow 8th Street until it dead ends into Hawthorne Avenue. Look for the Apopka Family Learning Center straight ahead and framed by trees and green iron fencing. 6. Make a right onto Hawthorne Avenue. 7. Make an immediate left through the green gates onto the driveway on your left. *Parking is available in the front, along the side of the building, and in the back.
