The Legal Aid Society's Intake department is in search of dedicated individuals that are looking for a way to assist those in need. Our office has two types of Volunteer positions that are available. The first position is telephone screeners. Our telephone screeners handle incoming calls from individuals seeking legal assistance and screen them for eligibility. After determining the callers eligibility, the telephone screener will either set an appointment for the caller or make the appropriate referrals.
Our second Volunteer Position is for Interviewers. Volunteer Interviewers will meet with the applicants to get all of their demographic information as well as all of the facts with regard to their legal issue. Both positions require good communication skills and typing skills and all potential Volunteers will need to have computer skills.
All Volunteers will spend a great deal of time entering information on the computer. We ask our Volunteers to commit to a regular schedule for at least 3 months. Our Volunteer shifts are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dress for this position is office casual. We are required to run a background search on all Volunteers prior to their starting with our agency.
