Partners In Democracy

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on January 22, 2010

Your volunteer group can earn $500 in one day for your favorite nonprofit! Partners in Democracy is a public/private partnership in which a participating organization "adopts" a specific precinct the day of the election. The Partner is responsible for providing volunteers at a specific precinct in Seminole County to serve as poll workers. Depending upon the level of partnership, benefits for the participating organization include: a sign indicating the polling place is staffed by your organization; the ability to wear shirts featuring your logo or organization name; a feature on the Supervisor of Elections website; an advertisement printed in local papers highlighting your organization; and a $500 donation to the nonprofit organization of your choice.

The number of volunteers needed varies by precinct, but most locations require 6 – 8 team members on election day. All poll workers will be required to arrive at their assigned precinct by 6:00 a.m. on election day, and must remain at that location until after the polls close at 7:00 p.m. Most work is completed by 8:00 p.m.

A presentation to your organization describing the features and responsibilities of a Partners In Democracy Team can be arranged at your convenience prior to your commitment to adopting a precinct.

Volunteers MUST attend a School of Instruction training prior to election day. This training can last from 3 – 5 hours based upon the different positions volunteers will fill. Additionally, all volunteer poll workers must be registered voters in Seminole County, with the exception of the “deputy” position (who can reside outside of Seminole County).
